TikTok Marketing Basics: A Beginner's Guide

By Loveline M. Doh • January 2026 • 5 min read

TikTok has changed the game. It is no longer just for dancing teenagers. Today, businesses, educators, and affiliate marketers use TikTok to reach millions of people—for free.

If you have been ignoring TikTok because you think it's "too young" for you, you might be missing out on the biggest organic reach opportunity on the internet.

Why TikTok Matters

Unlike Facebook or Instagram, where you need thousands of followers to get views, TikTok's algorithm gives every video a chance to go viral. Even an account with zero followers can get a million views if the content is good.

For affiliate marketers, this is huge. You don't need ads to reach people—you just need good content.

The "Hook, Value, CTA" Formula

TikTok videos are short (15-60 seconds). You must capture attention instantly. Use this formula:

  • The Hook (First 2 seconds): Stop the scroll. Say something surprising. "Stop scrolling if you want to learn how to make money online..."
  • The Value (Middle): Deliver the information quickly. Don't ramble.
  • The CTA (Call to Action): Tell them what to do next. "Link in bio" or "Follow for more tips."
Pro Tip:

Keep your videos between 30-45 seconds. This is long enough to share value but short enough to keep people watching till the end—which signals the algorithm that your video is good.

What Should You Post?

If you are an affiliate marketer, try these content types:

  • Tips: "3 tools every affiliate marketer needs."
  • Storytelling: "I used to struggle with... until I learned this."
  • Myths: "Stop believing this about making money online."
  • Tutorials: Quick screen recordings showing how to do something.

Consistency Is Key

TikTok rewards volume. Posting 1-3 times a day is ideal for growth. It sounds like a lot, but you can batch-create videos in one hour and schedule them.

Don't Overthink It

Your first videos won't be perfect. That's okay. TikTok values authenticity more than polish. Just start. Learn as you go.
